The Georgia Centers for Advanced Telecommunications Technology presented a one-day symposium on Next-Generation Video on Friday, February 28, 2003.

A distinguished collection of invited speakers travelled from California, Boston, Paris, and right here in Atlanta to provide timely perspectives on one of the key applications of broadband communications---a next generation of video services featuring unprecedented levels of picture quality and personalization. Specific topics of discussion included:

  • High Definition Television
  • Video On Demand
  • Network Based Personal Video Recording
  • Interactive Television
  • MPEG and ITU standards
  • IP-Video

The presenters addressed multiple viewpoints of relevance: from user to service provider, from codec implementation to bandwidth provisioning, from research directions to emerging standards.
