Next Generation Video Communications

A one day symposium presented by
The Georgia Centers for Advanced Telecommunications Technology

Eric Gourmelen
Multimedia Department Director
Thales Broadcast & Multimedia

Eric Gourmelen began working in DTV in 1992 at Matra Communication and then at Thales Broadcast & Multimedia (formerly named Thomcast). He was software product manager for the development of the MTS 100, a Tektronix MPEG-2 test and measurement tool that won an Emmy award in 1999.

Since 1997 Eric has served as Multimedia Department Director for Thales. He released on the market the OpenMux key technology that was twice rewarded at NAB 1999. Based upon this open and flexible technology, the Opal and Coral products are the leading MPEG-2 datacasting solutions in Europe for interactive TV and internet over satellite market. Starting in 1999, a strategic move towards video over IP has driven his department to be a key player in major video over DSL projects and rich media over LANs for Multi Tenant Unit markets.

Mr. Gourmelen holds two Diplomas of Engineer from the Ecole Centrale de Nantes and the Ecole des Mines de Paris, two leading French Engineering schools (equivalent to a Master of Science).
